Subject: Pain Several Years After 3-Level Fusion

Question: I had a triple fusion in 1999. I still have constant pain where they removed the bone from my iliac crest. I also have tender spots in the whole lower back, levels 3, 4, and 5.

Can anything be done to help me with this pain? I would appreciate any advice I can get. I have tried therapy and walking, but I can only walk for 10 minutes at a time and the apin becomes so bad I can't stand it. I'm desperate.

Thank you.

Answer: It depends one what is the cause of the remaining pain.

If it is the facet joints, sacroiliac joint, or poor fusion healing, then it's easy to help.

If it is permanent nerve damage, it's harder, but there are treatments including medications, spinal cord stimulation, and more.

Treament of failed back surgery is driven by the cause of the pain. there's no such thing as "it just didn't work."
